VIRTUAL ASSESSMENTS

Digital/Remote Assessments conducted via telepractice

The WISC–V, WAIS-IV (IQ/learning profile assessments) and WIAT-III (attainment tests of literacy and numeracy skills) can now be administered remotely/virtually through a digital platform that was created by Pearson, due to COVID-19. The value of the new platform is that children and young adults can be assessed within their home environment anywhere in the world. This platform has proven to be useful for exam accommodation and admissions assessments for children from the age of 11 years. More complex assessments of anxiety and ADHD can also be conducted; however, this depends on the age of the child, history and current concerns.

All subtests, apart from traditional Block Design can be administered via telepractice. An alternative subtest, Block Design Multiple Choice (BDMC) will be completed to allow for the generation of the Visual Spatial Composite score (VSI) on the school age assessment, and either Picture Completion (PC) or Figure Weights (FW) will be administered on the adult assessment in order to generate the Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI).

Process Of Completing A Virtual Assessment:

1. Set up Zoom parent session via email. This session is vital as developmental, learning and educational history about the child will be gathered. This session also addresses any questions parents have about the assessment, and details how the digital assessment platform works.

2. Dr. McCauley-White sends relevant paperwork to parents to complete prior to the assessment sessions.

3. We agree on dates for the assessment sessions, which will be conducted remotely via Zoom. Typically the assessment is conducted over two 1.5 hour sessions (i.e Tuesday and Wednesday)

4. Dr. McCauley-White to send Zoom session invite links to the child, via the parents, so that they can join the assessment sessions as per the schedule above. All the child requires is a pencil, the assessment booklets that will be sent to the parents prior to the assessment, a laptop and a good internet connection. They need to work in a quiet, distraction free environment for the duration of the session.

5. If any standardised rating scales are to be completed as part of the assessment (e.g for ADHD, anxiety, emotional issues), these will be sent to the parents and young person via email, as they are all completed online.

6. Once the assessment is complete, including all rating scales, the comprehensive report will be written and sent to the parents within 2-3 weeks.

7. Dr. McCauley-White to up a Zoom parent feedback session in order to discuss the findings of the assessment, recommendations, referral etc.
